There is a house near a canal, in which Luk Chan lives and always has fun activities do on holidays.
After reaching the canal, the adjacent is a rental house. Next door to Luk Chan's is her friend's house, the largest store in the next village. Another is the store of a nice husband and wife couple. Next on the canal bank is located a late afternoon market. Actually, Luk Chan had been familiar with this canal since young, used to sneak out from home to take a bath in the canal with an older friend, Pee Juk. Having seen them jumping into the water made her excited. For Luk Chan, taking bath in the pond was less funny than in the canal but she was not able to swim, so she followed her older friends to the canal by walking along the embankment to the stairs, and dropped herself in the water. She had to hold tight the pillars of the bridge and tried to move from one pillar to the other. Once it happened, she could not manage her movement. She was between two pillars and her tiptoes could not meet the bed of the canal, so she drowned and suffocated. She struggled until she reached to the bank. Since then she knew how to swim as long before punished by the elder brother Pi Chin for disobedience on the way back from canal to home and repeated his warning.
This picture inspired me with the story of a children in the countryside, whose way of life is in the pristine and gorgeous nature and tell a story about a child, diligent, cute, respectful, whom everyone loved in the family; especially the mother. Living in the countryside, located on the natural canal, made him feel happy and funny with childhood activities on the holidays, such as playing, fishing, boating, reading, and learning, and planting. The river is large, the water is clean, and the surroundings are fully good for consuming and agriculture. Further, rivers and canal are ones of sources of arts, cultures, and customs, which gathered and passed on generation to generation dated from antiquity, and become identities of the communities. We should keep clean rivers and canals and conserve them for good.
